JOHN ABBOTT COLLEGE, MONTREAL
TENURE-TRACK
POSITION IN HISTORY AND CLASSICS
From John Serrati
The Department of History and Classics at John Abbott College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor. The successful candidate shall begin teaching as a paternity leave cover on 26 March – April 2018, and will then assume their own course load in the Fall 2018 semester. Although the geographical and chronological focus is open, the Department is particularly interested in candidates who specialise in the history of Greece and/or Rome. The ability to teach Latin at all levels will be considered an asset.
John Abbott College is public college in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, a suburb of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The College is part of Quebec’s CÉGEP (Collège d’enseignement général et professionnel) network and provides a two-year pre-university programme to students aged seventeen to nineteen. The language of instruction is English.
The Department of History and Classics at John Abbott offers a diverse selection of courses drawn from major regions of the world over varying time periods. Students are encouraged to develop critical thinking and analytical skills as well as to and understand the historical development of different cultures. Teaching is a 4/4 load; all faculty are required to teach Western Civilisation as part of their regular course load.
Closing date is 1 March 2018.
Interested applicants must submit a cover letter and curriculum vitae to the College’s on line application system. Only applications which go through the College’s on line system shall be accepted.
Letters of reference shall only be required if a candidate is long-listed.
Candidates must possess at least a master’s degree in history or classics at the time of application.
John Abbott College is committed to diversity and equity in employment. It welcomes applications from women, Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, ethnic minorities, persons of minority sexual orientation or gender identity, visible minorities, and others who may contribute to diversification. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply; however, in accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, Canadian citizens and permanent residents shall be given priority.
