Limited-Term Appointment in Ancient Greek & Roman Studies, Trent University
Trent University invites applications for a one-year (12 months) limited term appointment in the Ancient Greek & Roman Studies Program (AGRS 0.5) and the Department of Anthropology (ANTH 0.5) at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing August 15, 2025. This position is located at the Peterborough Campus and is subject to budgetary approval.

The Ancient Greek & Roman Studies Program and the Department of Anthropology offer research informed, pedagogically innovative and community engaged undergraduate programs in Trent’s faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate teaching in the Ancient Greek & Roman Studies Program and the Department of Anthropology. Candidates must have a Ph.D. (or be close to completion by the date of appointment) in Classics or Classical Archaeology or a closely related field with an active research, publication, and teaching record. Experience teaching courses in the archaeology, mythology, and/or ancient languages of the ancient Mediterranean is preferable. This is a teaching intensive position, and responsibilities will include contributing to course delivery and curriculum development in the Ancient Greek & Roman Studies Program and the Department of Anthropology and providing service to the Program and Department.
The successful candidate should have a demonstrated capacity for excellence in undergraduate teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to teach seven (7) courses in the Ancient Greek & Roman Studies Program and the Department of Anthropology. The position has a teaching load of three in person courses in the fall term and four in person courses in the winter term, as follows:
Fall (3 courses)
LATN 1000H Elementary Latin I
AGRS-GESO 2520H Women in the Ancient World
ANTH-AGRS 2123H Archaeology II Methods
Winter(4 courses)
LATN 1001H Elementary Latin II
AGRS 1300H Gods, Heroes, Monsters
ANTH-AGRS 2206H Archaeology and Art History of Ancient Rome
Senior Seminar (4000-level) in Mediterranean Archaeology to be proposed by the successful candidate.
