2023-2024 Sessional Positions at Bishop’s University

In accordance with article 6.2.3 (a,b,c) of the Contract Faculty Collective Agreement, applications are invited for the following courses in the Department of Classical Studies, to be offered during the following session(s):

Fall 2023

CLA 101: Travellers, Tourists, and Foreign Wars: Getting About in the Ancient Mediterranean World

This course will introduce students to the geography of the ancient Mediterranean, through the study of ancient trade routes, migration of peoples, military activity, colonization, and empire building.

CLA 130: Sports and Games in the Ancient World

In this course, students will examine sporting & recreational activities of the ancient Mediterraneans as a lens to reveal aspects of these ancient societies.

Winter 2024

CLA 229: War and Society in the Greek and Roman World

This course will discuss the impact of war on the formation of society, government, empire, and policy in the ancient world.

Contract faculty members who have seniority points may simply submit a letter of interest via e-mail. Other candidates should submit full applications by e-mail (covering letter, curriculum vitae, and any other materials required to demonstrate that they have the necessary expertise to teach the course) to ctracy@ubishops.ca, by July 15, 2023.

Remuneration is $8,662.95, with travel and marking expenses provided where appropriate.
