Sessional Course Director: York University

 

 

The Department of Humanities and the Programme in Classical Studies at York University seek applications for a sessional Course Director position. The full-year course, HUMA/CLST 4103: Interpretations of Homeric Epic, will run in the Fall-Winter of 2023-24. The course will be taught in person on Fridays from 11.30 am to 2.30 pm.

 

The successful applicant will have responsibility, subject to Departmental guidance, for the design, presentation and evaluation of the course.  The Course Director is  responsible for the lectures of the course and for supervision of the other persons teaching in the course.  Also required is attendance at scheduled course meetings, evaluation of her/his own assigned tutorial group, and the invigilation of class tests and examinations and the submission of final course grades.  The Course Director must be available for student consultation outside class hours.  Formal Office Hours at a minimum of one hour per week are to be set, announced and kept.

 

The required qualifications are: a Ph.D. (ABD) in Classics, Classical Studies, or Ancient History with a strong Classics component; and a demonstrated background in the study of Homeric Epic. The preferred qualifications are: a completed Ph.D. in Classics, Classical Studies, or Ancient History with a strong Classics component;  a demonstrated background in the study of Homeric Epic; demonstrated active research in classics or ancient history in the form of recent publications or conference papers; and experience in teaching the subject matter of the course in humanities type interdisciplinary courses at the university level (normally such experience will consist of a formal teaching appointment for at least one academic session). Publications in the area dealt with by the course are a desired qualification.
