The Department of Classics at Queen’s University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates interested in teaching courses in the following: Introductory Greek (GREK 112A and GREK 112B), this is an introductory course with an expected enrolment of 25 students with the A section taught in the fall and the B section taught in the winter term; Intermediate Greek (GREK 208A and GREK 208 B), this is an intermediate level course with an expected enrolment of 15 students with the A section taught in the fall and the B section taught in the winter term; Research Methods (CLST 401), this is an upper year course with an expected enrolment of 25 students taught in the fall term. Candidates should have a Ph.D, and teaching experience at the university level in Classics. This is a fall/winter term appointment for the period September 1st, 2022, to April 30th, 2023, with classes in session from September 6th, 2022 to April 7th, 2023.

Course Description:
GREK 112A and GREK 112B – Introductory Greek total of 6.0 units (fall/winter terms)
Fundamentals of grammar, syntax and etymology, for students with no or little knowledge of Ancient Greek; provides sufficient background to read Plato, Euripides as well as the New Testament.
LEARNING HOURS 276 (72L;24T;180P).
Requirements: Prerequisite None.
Note This course is not normally open to students with 4U Greek.
GREK 208A and GREK 208B – Intermediate Greek total of 6.0 units (fall/winter terms)
Review of grammar, and developing facility in translation, study of literary content and background of authors.
LEARNING HOURS 282 (72L;210P).
Requirements: Prerequisite GREK 112.
Note A student may alternatively use 4U Greek as a prerequisite and should contact the Department of Classics for permission to enrol in this course.
CLST 401 – Research Methods 3.0 units (fall term)
An introduction to the diverse research methods deployed in Classics, Archaeology and Ancient History. Weekly seminars will feature the research interests of members of the Classics Department, cross-appointed faculty, and visiting researchers.
LEARNING HOURS 126 (36L;90P)
Requirements: Prerequisite (Level 4 or above and registration in a CLST, CLAS, GREK or LATN Plan with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.90 or higher) or permission of the Department.
