I prepared this special issue for the two positions announced below, but I take this opportunity to welcome new members (who are always numerous at this time of year). If you have not yet joined, have a look at the membership page on the CAC website (note that it is uploading very slowly, but we're working on that). Beside regular, life, and institutional memberships, two new categories were created a year ago: "Classics Enthusiast" and "Pre-university Teacher". They are only $25 each!

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR WITHOUT REVIEW IN LATIN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE
UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA — CNERS

The Department of Classical, Near Eastern and Religious Studies (CNERS) at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver) invites applications for an Assistant Professor Without Review in Latin language and literature. The successful candidate must be able to teach Latin at all levels, and courses on topics such as Latin literature, myth, ancient women, classical reception, classics in the media, and/or another area of specialization. The 1-year appointment is expected to commence September 1, 2018. This position is subject to final budgetary approval. Reappointment will be subject to excellent performance and availability of funds.

The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D., provide evidence of teaching effectiveness, and have demonstrated accomplishments in scholarship, as well as an enthusiasm for teaching in a department with the unique combination of fields present in CNERS. S/he will be expected to maintain an active program of research, graduate and undergraduate teaching (12 credits = four 3-credit courses), and participate fully in graduate supervision, departmental service and events. Information about the programs, faculty research interests, and general activities of CNERS are found at www.cnrs.ubc.ca.

Applications are to be submitted by April 23, 2018 to cners.jobsearch@ubc.ca with the subject line “Latin Lit. position”. Applicants should provide the following documents: a letter of application, curriculum vitae, a sample scholarly paper (maximum 15 pages), and evidence of teaching ability and effectiveness. Shortlisted applicants may be asked for a teaching dossier.

In addition, applicants should arrange to have three confidential letters of recommendation sent directly by their referees, by the above deadline, via email to cners.jobsearch@ubc.ca with the subject line: “Latin Lit. position”.

EIGHT-MONTH TEACHING TERM APPOINTMENT
DEPARTMENT OF CLASSICS
MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OF NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR

Memorial University of Newfoundland will make teaching term appointments in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences for teaching during the Spring and Fall semesters of 2018 and Winter semester of 2019, subject to budgetary approval and to sufficient enrolments. Departments and programs in the Faculty that may make such appointments are: Classics, English, Modern Languages (French, Spanish, German and the Frecker program in Saint-Pierre), Philosophy, Political Science, Religious Studies and Sociology. The minimum qualification for teaching term appointments is normally a completed doctoral degree in the discipline. In some cases a master's degree in the discipline together with appropriate teaching experience may be an acceptable qualification. For further details on these appointments, please contact the head of the appropriate department. By March 30th 2018, please forward a curriculum vitae, evidence of effective teaching, and the names and addresses of three referees, to Dr. Jennifer Simpson, Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's, Newfoundland, A1C 5S7.
