TEN-MONTH SESSIONAL POSITION

The Department of Classical Studies at Bishop’s University (Sherbrooke, QC) invites applications for a ten-month sessional position, to begin September 2017. The successful candidate will ideally be a Hellenist, with research and/or teaching specialization in the following areas: introductory and intermediate ancient Greek language; Greek tragic theatre; Classical mythology and literature; Greek culture and civilization. Candidates should hold a PhD (or be ABD) in Classical Studies or a related field.

TWO-YEAR APPOINTMENT IN THE ANCIENT GREEK WORLD

The Greek and Roman Studies program at Carleton University invites applications for a two-year appointment at the rank of Instructor in the ancient Greek world to begin July 1, 2017.
We seek an outstanding scholar with a PhD in Classics and demonstrable excellence in teaching. The area of specialization is open, but preference may be given to candidates who work in the Hellenistic period. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a 3.5 full-course equivalent teaching load. Teaching responsibilities will include ancient Greek language, Greek civilization, and possibly the development of a course in medical/scientific terminology; however, the appointee will also have the opportunity to develop an advanced topics course in his or her area of expertise.
Greek and Roman Studies is housed in the College of the Humanities together with the Bachelor of Humanities program and the program in Religion. GRS offers a B.A. and minors in Greek and Roman Studies and Archaeology. The program is home to five faculty members and 65 majors. AMERICAN SCHOOL OF CLASSICAL STUDIES AT ATHENS
FULL-TIME PROGRAMS ASSISTANT

The American School of Classical Studies at Athens (ASCSA), a non-profit overseas research institution, is seeking a qualified individual to work in the U.S. administrative office of the School in Princeton, NJ. The ASCSA offers a pleasant, energetic environment with dedicated professionals. Position is full time, 35 hours per week beginning June 1, 2017.
The principal duties will involve general clerical support, including the preparation of meeting materials, mailings, general correspondence, support for communications related to Committee work, database entry as needed (Raiser’s Edge), as well as other office duties. S/he will report to the Programs Administrator.
Qualifications: B.A. or Associate’s degree. Excellent computer, word processing, and spreadsheet skills (Microsoft Office). Excellent communications skills and administrative support experience in an office setting.
Annual salary of $30,000, plus benefits.

CFP: THE COURTS OF PHILIP II AND ALEXANDER THE GREAT:
MONARCHY AND POWER IN ANCIENT MACEDONIA
University of Alberta, May 2–4, 2018

This conference, to be held at the University of Alberta (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) on May 2-4, 2018, will explore the transformative effects of the reigns of Philip II and Alexander the Great, who are seminal figures in the emergence of a court society that was highly influential upon later periods of history.
Proposals are welcome from all academic disciplines addressing any aspect of the courts of Philip and Alexander, including (but not limited to):
Papers should be approximately 20 minutes in length. Paper proposals should include a title, an abstract of c. 100-150 words, and a brief c.v., and must be submitted to Frances Pownall (frances.pownall@ualberta.ca) no later than May 15, 2017.
