POSITION 1
The Department of Classics at the University of Toronto is soliciting applications for a tenure-stream position in Greek history at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The successful applicant will have demonstrated excellence in research and teaching, and will be expected to contribute to a growing and research-intensive doctoral programme (which includes a newly established collaborative program in ancient history) and to a thriving undergraduate programme in Greek, Latin, and Classical Civilization; an ability to teach Greek prose authors at all levels is required. The department welcomes a wide range of methods and innovative approaches in the study of history and is particularly interested in candidates who combine a thorough training in Classics with an interest in other disciplines in the humanities or social sciences. Applicants may wish to note that the department is also currently searching in the field of Hellenistic history and culture.

The appointment will begin 1 July 2006; an appropriate doctoral degree must have been earned by that date. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applications should include: a curriculum vitae, a sample of academic writing, evidence of excellence in teaching, and a short description of the applicant's current research plans. An ability to teach at all levels in at least one area of our ancient language program is required. The department welcomes a wide range of methods and innovative approaches in the study of history and culture and is particularly interested in candidates who combine a thorough training in Classics with an interest in other disciplines in the humanities or social sciences. Applicants may wish to note that the department is also currently searching in the field of Greek history.

Queen's University
Queen's National Scholar Program

The Department of Classics, Queen's University at Kingston, Canada (http://www.queensu.ca/classics), invites applications from outstanding scholars for a faculty appointment under the Queen's National Scholars Program. Qualified Greek archaeologists will be will be given priority, but specialists in Greek material culture broadly defined and Greek historians, particularly with research interests in epigraphy and/or numismatics, are also encouraged to apply. The main criterion of interest to the selection committee is academic excellence regardless of other considerations. Preference will be given to scholars in the early- or mid-career stages. Appointments under this special program are normally tenure-track at the assistant or associate professor level. The deadline for receipt of completed applications, including letters of reference, is October 14, 2005 for decision in January 2006.

Semester-in-Greece Program

The Greek Studies Chair at the University of Missouri - St. Louis is pleased to announce a new Semester-in-Greece Program. At a cost of US$5750 per student (incl. accommodation, visits to sites and museums, and tuition fees for 12 credits), this is one of the best deals available to undergraduate students. The Program, which focuses largely on Greek and Aegean art and archaeology, will be offered in Spring 2006 and the deadline for receipt of applications is September 30.
