The Department of Classics, Faculty of Arts, at the University of Manitoba invites applications for the position of Head of the Department (for at least one term of five years commencing July 1, 2003). The appointee will be granted a tenured position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, depending on qualifications and experience, also commencing July 1, 2003. The appointee shall be an established scholar with a record of publications and a strong scholarly agenda, demonstrated success in teaching, and experience in academic administration. The area of scholarly specialization is open, but the Department requires a person with a strong and broad grounding in classical philology and the demonstrated ability to teach a range of classical civilization courses, as well as Greek and Latin at any level from introductory to the M.A. The starting salary will reflect the
qualifications and experience of the chosen candidate.
The Department's comprehensive undergraduate offerings include major and minor programs in classical civilization and in Greek and Latin as well as courses in Modern Greek language. The Department also has a small M.A. program. The Department enjoys cooperative arrangements in scholarship and in teaching with several other schools and departments in the University and also with the Department of Classics at the University of Winnipeg.
