It has been brought to my attention that an important piece of business was unfortunately omitted from the agenda of the AGM at the recent conference in Vancouver.  The recently amended nomination procedures in sections 5a and b of the CAC's Constitution prescribe that "Before each annual meeting, the Council shall appoint a Nominating Committee to draw up the following year's slate of officers and other members of Council as described in the Constitution" and further that "The Nominating Committee shall consist of a chair chosen from the Past Presidents of the Association, and two other members of the Association appointed by the Council.  The composition of this committee shall be reported promptly to the annual meeting, at which time a maximum of two other members may be duly added upon passage of motions (if any) from the floor".  While Council did choose a chair (Past President James Russell) and two other members (Alban Baudou and Kelly Olson) of the 2002-2003 Nominating Committee, this information was not announced to the membership at the AGM, and thus no opportunity was offered for the election from the floor of the additional two members mentioned in article 5b.   I am therefore using this means of offering to the membership at large the opportunity to nominate up to two additional members to the Nominating Committee.  Such nominations, signed by two members of the CAC, should be received no later than June 3, 2002, via e-mail, fax, or regular mail, by the Secretary, Professor Patrick Baker (Département d'histoire, Faculté des Lettres, Université Laval, Sainte Foy, Qué., Canada, G1K 7P4;

On vient d'attirer mon attention sur une omission importante de l'ordre du jour de l'assemblée générale qui a eu lieu récemment à Vancouver.  Les nouvelles règles de nomination dans les sections 5a et b de la Constitution de la SCEC prescrivent que «avant chaque assemblée annuelle, le conseil nomme le comité de nomination qui se charge de sélectionner les candidats pour les postes à pourvoir sur le conseil» et que «le comité de nomination doit comprendre un président choisi parmi les anciens présidents de la société et de deux autres membres de la société choisis par le conseil.  La composition du comité doit être présentée à l'ensemble des membres au moment de l'assemblée générale, à l'occasion de quoi un nombre maximum de deux autres membres peut être ajouté sur proposition spontanée de l'assemblée».  Bien que le Conseil ait choisi un président (l'ancien président James Russell) et deux autres membres (Alban Baudou et Kelly Olson) du Comité de Nomination de 2002-2003, on a négligé de faire l'annonce de cette information à l'assemblée générale, et, par conséquent, on n'a pas offert aux membres l'occasion de proposer les deux membres additionnels mentionnés dans l'article 5b.  Je profite donc du bulletin électronique pour offrir aux membres l'occasion de proposer un maximum de deux membres additionnels au Comité de Nomination.
