Letter from the president
From: James Russell, University of British
Columbia
<russellj@interchange.ubc.ca>
Dear Colleagues:On the Eve of the Annual Meeting of the Classical Association of Canada, I wish those of you who are planning to come to Vancouver Bon Voyage and a very warm welcome to the University of British Columbia where my colleagues and our students look forward to making your stay as pleasant as possible. I would like, on behalf of our entire membership, to express our deep appreciation to Professor Robert Todd, Chair of the Programme Committee for the 2002 Annual Meeting, for his hard work in producing a splendid programme and taking care of the many details that lie behind a successful Meeting; and to Professor Phillip Harding for his equally tireless efforts in orchestrating the local arrangements to ensure a smooth flowing Conference.
I would also appreciate receiving news from those of you who know of any colleagues or friends of the Association who have passed away in the past year, with a brief note on their professional positions, so that we may honour their memory in a moment of silence during the AGM. Also I am pleased to report that at the last meeting of Council it was unanimously agreed to invite Professor Elaine Fantham to succeed the late Desmond Conacher as our Honorary President and she has accepted our invitation.
Looking forward very much to seeing many of you in Vancouver at the end of the week,
Sincerely,
James Russell, President
