Limited term appointment of eight months
at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor
TRENT UNIVERSITY, Department of Ancient History & Classics, invites applications for a limited term appointment of eight months at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor, depending on qualifications and teaching experience, to begin September 1, 2002.  The appointment is subject to budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a first-year course in classical drama (in translation), a senior-level course in Classical Literature in translation, and either a course in Greek or a course in Latin.  Experience in producing or directing ancient drama in English would be an asset.

Candidates are advised that courses at Trent are two-term courses and not semestered.

Applicants may have the option of converting the position from one of eight months to one of ten months (September 2002 to June 2003) by repeating the first-year course in classical drama (in translation) in the Universityís programme in Oshawa one day a week from September to April.

Applicants, who should demonstrate both good teaching ability and potential as scholars, should have a Ph.D. or be very near completion and should address their applications to:

Ten-month contractually limited appointment
at the rank of Assistant Professor

The Department of Classics at Thorneloe University invites applications for a ten-month contractually limited appointment at the rank of assistant professor, effective August 1st, 2002.  The current salary for the ten month period of the appointment is $ 39,340.

Qualifications should include a Ph.D. complete or near completion, teaching experience and the ability to teach undergraduate Latin, Classical Civilization, literature and ancient history courses.   The successful candidate will teach 6 half year courses and be expected to participate in the administrative activities of the department.
