Obituary Announcement and Call for Papers (Alberta)
Homer A. Thompson passed away after a long illness on May 7 in his retirement home at Hightstown, N.J. (near Princeton). He is survived by his widow, Dorothy. He remained active in his academic work until the end of his life, and vacated his office at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton only two years ago. A memorial service is planned in Princeton sometime later this year. Obituaries have been published in the Philadelphia Inquirer on Thursday, May 11 and in the New York Times on Saturday, May 13. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations in Homer's memory be sent to:

This is to announce that the next annual meeting of the Classical Association of the Canadian West will be hosted by the University of Alberta and will take place March 2-3 2001 at the Varscona Hotel, Edmonton.
This notice is a first call for papers. The deadline for submissions is September 21, 2000. The theme of the conference will be 'The Seasons: Greek and Roman Perspectives', but we particularly welcome papers on the theme of 'Winter'. We have plans to publish a collection of papers related to this theme after the conference.
Please submit abstracts to:
A second call for papers will be issued in July 2000. We encourage everyone to seek funding for attendance at the conference on an individual basis.
