Travel and Accommodation for Council Members

Flights: Please do your best to get a good price on your airfare.  It can vary enormously, so watch the airline websites or use a travel agent.  At all events book well in advance to get the best fare.

Hotel: the Holiday Inn, 280 Bloor St.  offers rates for academics: CLICK FOR LINKS.  For the best rate, you must phone and request the University of Toronto or academic/government rate.  Book well in advance (i.e. now) to get a good rate.  Closer to the time the hotel may have no vacancy.

Travel from the airport: best way is to take the “Airport Rocket”, the bus-subway connection from the airport.  The Rocket runs every 20 minutes or so most of the time, picking up outside all the terminals; the whole trip takes about 45 minutes. Look for TTC buses.  You will need exact change (currently $3.00). The bus takes you to Kipling Station where you transfer to the Bloor-Danforth subway line (no transfer ticket needed).  Get off at St. George.  The hotel is on the first block west of St. George, opposite the Bata Shoe Museum.  Taxi costs over $50:00 per person (even if you share).  The airport bus (Pacific Western Airport Express) that goes to hotels doesn’t include the Holiday Inn and doesn’t go anywhere near it.

Reimbursement: Currently the CAC covers your airfare and one night hotel.  The Treasurer can and will provide a tax deductible receipt for other expenses, such as second night in the hotel, meals, taxi, parking.

Council meetings are very expensive; please do your best to keep costs down.  We all end up a little out of pocket, but we do benefit from being able to visit Toronto as well as from the significant friendship and collegiality that we get from these meetings.
